Guiding principle
Classwize is to help focus students, not to catch or control them. Be transparent about how you will use Classwize, and show the same courtesy you would want to receive if it were you being monitored.
The first time you use Classwize with a class:
-
Tell your students you will be using Classwize this year.
-
Explicitly tell them that you will be monitoring them only during class time (and then stick to that promise).
- Remind them that Classwize sees their Chrome browser when they are signed into school Google accounts, but does not see or affect their phones.
Each time you use Classwize:
-
Announce to the class that you will be using Classwize before you start the app.
- If your activity will require that you restrict their access or close their browser tabs, warn them and give them a minute to organize and/or bookmark any open tabs.
- Set an accurate ending time in Classwize. Do not let your Classwize monitoring run overtime into another teacher’s class.
