Using Anchor for Podcasting
Account Creation Guidelines
Anchor is a free program that allows you to create a podcast, host it online, distribute it to listening platforms, and monitor episode stats.
There are two options for accessing this program in the Walpole Public Schools, the Anchor on the web (uses a internet browser interface) or the Anchor app (accessed via iphone or ipad.) In order to use Anchor to host a podcast, you must set up an account on Anchor and you will need an email address to do so.
You can only have one Anchor account per email address. It is currently not possible to toggle from one account to the other. In order to have multiple podcasts you will need to create multiple accounts each associated with a different email address and manually log in to each account separately from your Anchor app or Anchor on the web.
Below are some options for account set up for staff to consider based on the type of podcast they plan to create. Please consult with Digital Learning Coach in your building or the Tech Department before setting up your account.
Classroom Based Podcast - A podcast intended to curate content created by students in your classroom. Teachers can use their school email address to create an account on Anchor. Staff email addresses are deactivated upon retirement (and or dismissal) the content of the podcast can be downloaded or the account can be changed to a private email prior to retirement. The Walpole Public Schools reserves the right to close the Anchor account at any time.
Student Project Podcast - A podcast created for a student project. High school students with permission may use their school email address to create an Anchor account to host a podcast created for a school project. The content on the podcast must be approved by school administration. Students in elementary or middle school cannot create accounts on Anchor because of age restrictions. Any content created by students at that level should be hosted on an account created by a teacher. The Walpole Public Schools reserves the right to close the Anchor account at any time. Student email addresses are deactivated upon graduation but the content of the podcast can be downloaded or the account can be changed to a private email prior to graduation.
School-wide Podcast - A podcast intended to curate content created by staff/students in a school, grade level or department. A specific email address should be requested to create the Anchor account.*
Club, Group or School Organization - A podcast intended to curate content created by a school group. A specific email address should be requested to create the Anchor account.*
*A specific email address, for example “[email protected]” will not be tied to a specific user, but can be set up as an alias to a staff account so that any emails sent to this account can be monitored. The credentials for the specific email address can be shared with other staff members working on the podcast so that they can access the account. The account credentials should be monitored and updated based on changes in the staff.
Anchor accounts are public and the content published on the podcast is public. When publishing student content, staff should follow the same guidelines used for publishing student images and student work on social media channels.
